A couple of days ago, Police seized synthetic urine at 2 Quincy businesses and a man was arrested for possessing a synthetic urine kit. Also, the Brazilian UFC fighter Thiago Silva has been suspended for one upon his admission that he provided a fake urine sample in order to pass a drug test.
The use of fake urine in an attempt to mask drug use is a dilemma for workplace and sports drug testing programs.
There are many kits on the market and today’s synthetic urine even includes creatinine, salts and coloring dye. The kits come with adulterant tests and temperature strips and heating pads to ensure the sample is at body temperature. Tubing is provided to give the illusion that the sample is coming from the body.
Instead of pH readings, creatinine levels or unusual temperature readings in urine, scientists in Western Australia are developing a test to detect synthetic urine products.
